Jesus asked: Why do you love me?

During my quiet time this morning, Jesus asked me: "Why do you love me?"

What a sweet question. The words in themselves reveal that Jesus knows that I love him. I know I love him too. However, having a moment to put feelings into words with him was tender.

Before I answered, I asked myself "What is love, how does it develop, what does it mean to love?" Love is the result of trust. Trust is the result of witness. Witness is the result of desire. Desire is the result of need. The need is the result of existence.

Then I said, "I know you love me because of your presence, your patience, your mercy, your provision, your consistency, your promises, your surprises, your determination, your calmness, your authenticity, and your protection." This quickly brought to mind the love verse:

Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when a blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance.

This is the kind of love woman are called to show in their marriage. Being in an era of singleness (even if I were in a different era), Jesus provides all I need through him. It was a subtle and kind reminder to keep my eyes on him as I journey forward in my purpose.

Then I asked, "Why do you love me?" His response brought me to tears. He replied "Because you have endured, you have overcome, you have chosen, you are seeking, you are certain, and you are mine. This took me to a private moment of him consoling me and encouraging me to continue in the truth of his love, to stay strong in knowing that he has my back, I am hemmed in, he is leading me, supporting me, and has great plans for me.

What a nice moment of checking in with each other. A relationship with Jesus does deserve time to sit together and reflect on how we are with each other. It is not a list of to-do's or requests. It is an honor.

We host Jesus in our hearts and our bodies are a temple unto the Lord. We can take great honor in making the accommodations fit for our King. Let your heart be open to loving Jesus because he surely loves you.
